Starting the New Year Slowly by Guest Posting

I’m very (read: much too) slowly working my way into the new year. I think I must be in denial somewhat, because I’m dragging along so slowly behind the swiftly-continuing march of time. Little by little my energy and motivation are increasing, but with all the Christmas planning, cooking, and hosting I did over the past few weeks—not to mention the ridiculous, debilitating cold I suffered from the whole time—I haven’t had much time to write on my blog. I’m still preparing a 2014 retrospective, which I plan to post early next week, and I’m thinking seriously about my 2015 goals and resolutions (my love of list-making has already let this get out of hand). Those are to come too—before it’s too late to actually declare them as New Year’s Resolutions (is it ever too late?). But in the meantime, I’m guest posting on a friend’s blog, something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.

My online friend Anna Scanlon has a lovely blog called Anna in Wonderland, and she had several guest bloggers participate in December to help her maintain her blog while she dealt with some personal and work issues. I want to do more guest posting—well, any actually; this is my first one—so I wrote a piece for her.

Since she frequently writes and vlogs about fashion and makeup, I decided to write about color, and how much I love using it to express myself, especially with things that are typically thought to be limited to certain shades or palettes (like hair and walls). It was also very much in my mind as I had traveled to my niece’s wedding in Cancun, Mexico.

The ceremony took place at 4 p.m. on Saturday, just as the sun was beginning to set, and the color of the sky was absolutely gorgeous. It reminded me just how much I love color.

This was actually the fourth time this weekend I thought about that: how much color means to me. I know that sounds simplistic, but it’s fun to be reminded of those simple ideas. It’s a little ironic too, since I wear a lot of black clothes, but I really love color, and would rather have color than not. At least three times this weekend, color came up in conversation surrounding items that people expect to be limited to certain shades, but to which I say, why?

So at least I’ve done some writing so far, and I hope to do more guest posts on other blogs in the future. (If you’d like me to write a guest post for you, or participate in a swap, contact me). Please check it out, and take a look at the rest of Anna in Wonderland while you’re there.

Happy New Year, Everyone!
